TRM Statement on Policing

NO PRIDE IN POLICING. We will not have cops at our June 12 March & Vigil.

At TRMA, we recognize policing in all forms as rooted in anti-Blackness, (trans) misogynoir, and the systems of slavery and incarceration. As a collective that advocates for the safety and liberation of Black trans women first and foremost, we reject the notion that police "keep us safe" and refuse to work with them.

THIS MEANS THAT WE RELY ON OUR COMMUNITY TO KEEP US SAFE.

While law enforcement is aware of our plans, police will not be invited to the event or asked to secure the march route.

We will not take primary directions from law enforcement unless there is a clear, legal, and reasonable explanation for doing so that does not impede our efforts.

We ask that volunteers and participants commit to a policy of disengagement with the police throughout the event.

We expect that our 2021 March & Vigil, like our 2020 event, will be a peaceful, conflict-free, meaningful space for trans joy, trans rage, trans community, and trans remembrance. The TRM Board and volunteers commit to intra-community care, which includes compassionate, thoughtful provisions for our protection and vehemently excludes policing.

We are looking at YOU white and cis folks to act accordingly and not put those at the forefront of this movement at greater risk.
